The Joy of Being
Artist Statement - About the Series ‘The Joy of Being’
Being still, present. Documenting. Awareness of space, stillness, the sweetness of Being with my child.
As a mother, documenting the ordinary daily occurrence of bath time, I’ve become aware that the mundane, seemingly unremarkable daily tasks may not be insignificant at all. The subject of this series of awareness & consciousness is my daughter, Sakura Joy; the naked, unveiled Beingness.
The bath is a space where we can be present. It is a womb that can cradle stillness and peace. Water connects us with nature and the whole.
The series, The Joy of Being, is part of a wider body of work, exploring ideas of awareness, consciousness, & being. Over the past year I have been casually photographing my daughter Sakura Joy at bath time. Most images are captured as she is in her state of just Being. She is part of my journey to awareness & consciousness at a turning point in my life.
